Xmas hamper shoppers urged not to overspend during the festive period
Published on 20/12/2010

Brits have been advised to re-think their Christmas budget.

Joanna Parsley, associate director of Credit Action, said small changes to festive spending can make a big difference.

She urged people - including those who are planning to purchase Xmas hampers - to write a list of all the items they require.

"If you do need to borrow money to fund the Christmas season, make sure you shop around for the best credit deal you can and aim to pay down the debt as soon as possible," Ms Parsley noted.

Costs can quickly escalate over the festive period, but consumers can save cash if they wise up, she remarked.

Her comments follow the release of the Salary Gap Study, by Bright Grey, which revealed 11 per cent of individuals in the UK are set to splash out more they can afford.

During the run up to Christmas the average UK adult spends 45 per cent of their monthly wage to fund their lifestyle.
