Xmas hamper fans 'should prepare for next Christmas now'
Published on 29/12/2010

Brits have been advised to set aside cash now in order to avoid ending up in arrears next Christmas.

The Office of Fair Trading has urged people to plan ahead and budget accordingly when buying presents for loved ones - including those planning to purchase Xmas hampers - for the 2011 festive period.

It suggested consumers shop around for the best savings deal so they can make the most of their cash.

John Rhodes, head of financial capability at Citizens Advice, said there are always a "lot of people" struggling with the financial challenges of post Christmas debt.

"But with a bit of planning you can look into the options available and set up a savings plan that's right for you," he added.

Tracy North, spokeswoman for Kelkoo, recently observed surfing the web in order to bag a bargain is now a "trendy" thing to do and noted there is no longer a stigma attached to using discount vouchers.
