Xmas hampers that contain alcoholic beverages may come in handy, as 22 per cent of Brits plan to leave a glass of sherry for Santa, a new survey has indicated.

According to the report by Ember, 11 per cent will pour him a glass of whisky, while others will provide him with Port.

Andre Johnstone, senior marketing manager at Ember, said he is not surprised sherry is the most popular beverage when it comes to the age old tradition of leaving a tipple out for Father Christmas.

"But it's great to see modern tastes creeping in to mix things up a little! I was especially pleased to see that some people are even leaving Real Ale out," he added.

Elsewhere, a recent article advised people to decant wines if they have a strong sulphur smell, as it will allow the beverage to breath and give the tannins chance to mellow.
