Quentin Tarantino might be pleased if he was to receive a champagne gift hamper, as it has been revealed the director enjoyed a glass or two of bubbly before the Oscars awards show this week.

Eli Roth, one of the actors in Tarantino's recent movie Inglourious Basterds, told E! News on the red carpet before the bash, that the screenwriter had treated some of the stars of the film to a pre-party - fuelled by the fizzy beverage.

Roth remarked: "At two o'clock, we all gathered at Quentin's house and we had pizza and champagne and cupcakes."

The cast members, including Diane Kruger and Christoph Waltz, had drunk so much that they were already inebriated before the awards ceremony.

"We're [already] wasted," he confessed.

Tarantino could satisfy his thirst for champagne by taking to the sky in a Virgin hot air balloon this year, as the rides now include a complimentary glass of the drink.
