Actor Mario Lopez might want to receive a baby gift hamper ahead of his child's birth, but he does not want to know the infant's gender ahead of the event.

The former Saved by the Bell star announced that he wants to wait until his child is born before finding out the sex.

Speaking with Ellen DeGeneres, he said: "I think that it is one of life's great surprises."

He admitted that family and friends are a little disgruntled by his stance, but the performer remarked that he and his girlfriend Courtney Mazza are no daunted by not knowing the gender beforehand.

Lopez added that the only difference in the outcomes will be to do with gifts and the coat of paint on the wall.

It was reported last week that England and Chelsea footballer Joe Cole and his partner Carly were celebrating the birth of their first child together.
