Wine hampers could soon be stocked with varieties from regions of the world not traditionally associated with the beverage, as consumers are embracing new products.
A recommendation from the BBC's Saturday Kitchen led to a surge in sales of Indian wine, with the programme suggesting one example was an ideal accompaniment to curry.
And tastes appear to be broadening further, as editor of Decanter magazine Guy Woodward told the Guardian advances in technology and knowledge are resulting in more countries producing quality tipple.
"We're seeing more wines from far-flung corners of the globe – often regions without a long wine history - with some exciting results," he said, adding China, Slovenia and Santorini have all created award-winning drinks.
