Wine hamper fans may want to try award winning beverages from Marlborough
Published on 31/08/2010

Wine hamper enthusiasts may want to enjoy a tipple from Marlborough, as the region has produced plenty of wines that won praise at the Romeo Bragato Wine Awards.

Martinborough's Cobblestone Te Muna Pinot Noir 2009 was named as champion wine at the event, while Marlborough created the best Rieslings, Pinot Gris and Sauvignon Blancs, the Marlborough Express reports.

Chief executive of New Zealand Winegrowers Philip Gregan said grape growers in the region should be "extremely proud" of the contribution to the "country's position as a quality wine-producing nation".

Winemakers and Summerhouse Vineyard owners Heather and Meric Davies bagged the Friedrich Wohnsiedler Trophy for their Summerhouse Dry Riesling 2010.

Mrs Davies claimed the judges were looking for beverages that reflected the vineyard they originated from and the Summerhouse did that because of its "depth of flavour and floral and fruit characters".

In a recent article for Salon.com, Steven Koplan advised wine hamper fans to host their own wine tasting session at home.
