A wine expert has issued advice on what types of beverage go well with tomatoes, something which may interest luxury hamper fans. In an article for the Telegraph Susy Atkins said it "is quietly satisfying" to match wine with the different varieties of the fruit. "A simple plate of just-picked, sun-warmed tomatoes, sliced with basil, is only enhanced by a cool grassy, lemony white. A young, cheap French wine gets my vote, though hold back on vinaigrette," she added. Ms Atkins noted New Zealand sauvignon blanc - which is often featured in luxury wine hampers - is an ideal accompaniment to tomato tarte tatin. She also suggested wine enthusiasts pair premium Italian wines with Panzanella, as it is perfect with a "grassy white with a citrus edge". It was recently revealed the cost of ingredients used to create Christmas puddings has increased, which may prompt those who plan to buy a hamper as a festive gift to act now. According to report from researchers at Mintec apricots and sultanas have risen in price by 64 per cent.
