Wine hamper fans are more 'inquisitive' about the beverage
Published on 09/08/2010

The average wine drinker - which may include wine hamper fans - is interested in learning about what they are imbibing, one expert has claimed.

Managing director of lovethatwine.co.uk Hatim Dungarwalla said more people are becoming inquisitive about the beverage.

"The casual wine drinker now has a much more sophisticated understanding and palate than perhaps three to five years ago," he added.

Mr Dungarwalla noted individuals now understand the depth and flavour of certain types and cited the "unique floral character" of a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc as being something people recognise straight away.

He explained members of the public now have a healthy attitude to wine and pinot noir is a drink more consumers are now able to identify with.

The specialist's comments follow the release of a study by Mintel, which revealed in the US 90 per cent of citizens are opting to enjoy wine at home rather than in bars and restaurants.
