Bulgaria could be the perfect destination for gift hamper fans as the country's wine production has been praised by a travel website.

Suite101.com claims the country's viticulture industry is "booming again" and has listed the best places to visit to witness the growth.

The Pleven Wine Museum in the north of the nation is based underground, with a series of vaults in a cave storing over 6,000 different varieties of the beverage - 4,000 of which are grown in Bulgaria.

It allows visitors the opportunity to peruse wine making equipment from the past and retells the history of the country's viticulture industry.

Villa Lyubimets Winery in Plovdiv is "one of the prettiest vineyards" open to the public and occupies 1,250 acres in the Thracian Valley region, while the Todoroff Wine Cellar is the country's first boutique producer of the drink.

Last week, it was reported by the Sydney Morning Herald that Uruguay was fast becoming one of the biggest exporters of the alcohol in South America.
