People seeking the perfect treat to hand over on Mothers' Day may want to consider something sparkling.

According to the owners of the Bolney Wine Estate at Bookers Vineyard, a bottle of pink bubbles could be ideal, meaning they may make a welcome addition to a gift hamper.

One of the beverages recommended is the award-winning 2005 Sirius Rose, which is described as a "fantastic sparkler" and picked up the prize for Best in Class at the 2009 International Wine & Spirits Competition.

Its producers said: "Made from a blend of Seyval Blanc and Merlot grapes, this wine has a wonderful 'strawberries and cream' character, with hints of vanilla and loganberries in the background."

As well as being good to drink by itself, it goes well with creamy soft cheeses and red berry fruit desserts, the firm said.

Another option for gift hampers is Spanish wines, which Rod Phillips recently cited in an Ottawa Citizen article as being tasty and good value.
