A number of Lincolnshire organisations have teamed up to deliver Christmas hampers to vulnerable local residents. The Sleaford and district branch of the Royal British Legion (RBL) decided to use the £1,200 it was presented with by village newspaper the Ruskington Crier to hand out 30 hampers to those in need, the Sleaford Target reports. Ian Graham, chairman of the RBL branch, claimed the body is delighted the news provider chose to make it its chosen charity and this is the best way the money could have been spent. "Every month we visit about 80 people who are house-bound and we leave a 'comfort gift' such as fruit, flowers, stationery etc and at Christmas, we decided to expand the scheme to the hampers," he was quoted as saying. The hampers have been dished out every festive season for the last four years and are given to ex-service people or dependants of ex-service people who may be feeling isolated and alone. However, anyone who is treated to a luxury Christmas hamper this year should beware of thieves stealing their goods, after research from Halifax Home Insurance found there is an increase in burglaries during December.
