A hamper event organised by Tower Hamlets Foodbank saw four tonnes of food donated and distributed to vulnerable London consumers.
The body sought to spread a little joy over the holiday season by targeting individuals with complicated living arrangements and sufferers of domestic violence, Wharf.co.uk reports.
Local school Langdon Park collected around 637kg of treats for the hampers, topping their previous records of 450kg in 2010 and 540kg last year.
Teacher at the institution Mary O'Brien told the news provider she had seen some parents of children at the school arrive at the event to receive a hamper. She added: "The students who help don't see it as poverty, they just think they themselves are lucky. They just want to make others happy."
The food - which was donated in a series of organised collections across the Tower Hamlets borough - was presented to needy consumers at Christ Church in Spitalfields.
According to Christine Bamigbola, the London development officer for the Trussell Trust, which supervises all foodbanks in the UK, 292 organisations have fed more than 10,000 people in the last six months.
