This weekend sees the launch of Words by the Water, a literature event in Keswick, Lake District.

A festival of words and ideas it takes place over ten days between March 1st and 10th and features writers and readers getting together to share the pleasure of books, words and ideas.

This year's event sees some of the greatest names in contemporary fiction alongside political heavy-hitters, familiar broadcast faces and leading thinkers, economists, historians, and more.

Alexander McCall Smith will discuss prolific storytelling from Scotland to Africa and will join many other authors at the festival, including Pat Barker, Ruth Rendell and Poet Laureate Carol Ann Duffy.
