People who turned out to attend a picnic in the village of Braes helped to make the event a huge success, it has been claimed.

The Falkirk Herald reports that about 400 locals headed to Valley Park recently for the first event of this type.

Activities on offer included bungee runs, pony rides and fancy dress competitions - as well as the chance to enjoy the contents of picnic hampers.

Community education worker John Burt said: "It's the first one at the park and we are over the moon with the turnout. We're planning on making it an annual event now to recreate the old gala days."

He went on to praise the management committee for making the day an undoubted success and suggested it is good to see Braes still has plenty of community spirit.

Westquarter & Redding Community Project and Falkirk Council teamed up to deliver the event, which also featured football and an egg and spoon race.
