Shoppers told it's not too late to budget for Christmas
Published on 08/11/2012

Setting aside £20 a week during the countdown to the festive season could help people to purchase Christmas hamper gifts without getting into financial strife.

Head of banking at MoneySupermarket Kevin Mountford explained how it is "not too late" to start saving for presents and putting money away in advance of December.

"There's still plenty of time ahead to make a budget and stick to it, to avoid spending more than planned," he stated, adding that it is "easy to get swept up" in the Yuletide festivities.

With just two pay days left until Christmas for many people, nearly a quarter (23 per cent) of Brits expect to use savings to purchase gifts, while one in ten will use credit or store cards.

A survey by MoneySupermarket also revealed that a small number (three per cent) of individuals expect to use their overdraft to meet costs over the festive period.
