Red wine in Christmas hampers 'has several health benefits'
Published on 07/11/2011

The red wine contained in Christmas hampers can boost the health of the recipient, it has been claimed.

An expert told the Daily Express that while alcohol should be avoided by those looking to lose weight, not all drinks are detrimental to one's wellbeing.

The newspaper cited comments from supermodel Claudia Schiffer, who in the past has said that being teetotal is part of the reason why she has been able to maintain her slim figure all these years.

While she is correct in saying this has helped, red wine should not be dismissed out of hand, the expert noted.

Champagne hampers could also benefit the person receiving them, as this drink can have a positive impact on one's health.

"One glass won't hurt, especially if it's red wine which has wider health benefits or champagne which has less sugar," the expert told the newspaper.

A recent study by Harvard University found that drinking alcohol can benefit women who have suffered from heart attacks in the past.
