Festive flowers do not need to be red, with poinsettias in creams, peach and soft pink described as "increasingly popular".
Florist Jamie Aston explained how there are certain blooms that remain a common choice year after year.
Amaryllis was noted as being very much "the Christmas flower", while ilex berries and pussy willow were also noted as good seasonal choices.
"You can't go wrong with a vase display of these backed with scented fresh pine - very traditional, which you can't fault at this time of year," Mr Aston stated.
The expert noted that thinking outside of the box and opting for festive colours that are not red is a good way to bring seasonal cheer to a home.
For an added touch, Mr Aston recommended using moss, glass chipping or snow to decorate vases.
Those keen to send a special gift to a loved one this Christmas may want to consider a hamper containing chocolates, a bottle of bubbly and a bouquet of fresh flowers.
