Recipe to inspire hamper cheese lovers?
Published on 21/01/2011

Hamper cheese enthusiasts might be inspired to get in the kitchen by the winning recipe of the Vive le Cheese competition.

Professional chefs from all over the country were allowed to enter this challenge, which set the task of coming up with the best concoction involving French cheese, reports Eat Out magazine.

National winner Dez Turland, group development chef for Brend Hotels, was assigned the Emmental variety for the preparation of his dish.

He incorporated it into a tart with white onion and Cornish ham, as well as using cider from the West Country to make a sauce for an Emmental salad.

His inventions were well received by Martin Bates, chief executive of the Craft Guild of Chefs.

"I was really impressed with Dez's recipe; [it was] simple, interesting with a regional twist and tasted great – congratulations Dez," he commented.

It is one of the Craft Guild of Chefs' aims to promote the use of British and European produce.
