Readers leading cheeses may be found in hampers
Published on 27/09/2011

Hampers could include speciality cheeses after the results of a new poll to find readers favourites were published by a newspaper.

According to the Telegraph, foodies voted for their top dairy products, with a variety from the Champagne region of France taking the number one spot.

Readers of the paper chose chaource as their favourite, a creamy, slightly crumbly blend that is best paired with Champagne and has been made in the town since the 14th century.

"We know that the majority of people love their cheddar but some people are actually scared of trying new cheeses," secretary of the British Cheese Board Nigel White told the news source, something that gifts of cheese in hampers could help to rectify.

The poll marked National Cheese Week, which is currently underway, with another study by Sainsbury's finding that the nation's best-loved curdled milk product is cheddar.

Analysis of Nectar loyalty card data by the supermarket discovered that almost half (45 per cent) of all cheese consumed by its customers in the past year was cheddar, with mature and extra mature purchases accounting for more sales than younger products.

Other top eats in the cheese market included parmesan, red leicester, mozarella and brie.
