Picnic hampers banned from Olympic sailing site
Published on 24/07/2012

Picnic hampers have been banned from an Olympic event where spectators are invited to sit on a grassy bank and watch the competition take place.

The Nothe Fort in Weymouth is to provide a viewing area platform for fans of the sailing events that are scheduled to take place in Dorset.

However, the BBC reports that spectators have been informed there will be strict security restrictions in place for those watching the boating and windsurfing sports.

Ticket holders are not allowed to bring fold-up chairs and cool boxes, with individuals encouraged to only bring a rug, small bag and snacks.

People have been told not to bring liquids larger than 100ml, which includes drinks, no alcohol and no large glass bottles, while oversized hats and umbrellas are also restricted.

According to organisers Locog, the strict measures have been introduced to ensure safety at the site, with a limited number of fixed seats to be available for those who most require them.
