Pensioners presented with hampers in Ynysybwl
Published on 31/12/2012

Elderly residents in the Welsh village of Ynysybwl have been presented with food hampers after a local church donated the food gifts to a leading charity.

Friends of Tabernacle sent a dozen hampers to Age Concern Morgannwg, which then distributed the goodies to individuals who were likely to spend Christmas alone this year.

MP Owen Smith also handed over a luxury hamper - including a warm blanket - to the organisation and stated he is delighted to help out such a worthy cause.

"Age Concern Morgannwg's work in the local community is so important and I'm really pleased to see them giving those in need essential food over the festive period," he added.

The charity supports more than 10,000 older individuals every year to give them a happier Christmas and ensure they stay safe during the winter months.

Even royalty got involved in helping the elderly this year, after Prince Charles and his wife Camilla recently packed hampers during a visit to Bethnal Green and Peckham.
