Consumers planning to order Christmas hampers online for their loved ones have been reminded not to leave purchasing until the last minute.
Director of postal policy and regulation at Consumer Focus Robert Hammond urged people to avoid disappointment and place their orders early.
"With only a month to go and last post dates for some international mail this week, we'd urge people to think about their Christmas post now," the expert stated.
Individuals were advised that mailing their gifts early will also mean they can save money by sending the post second class rather than first class.
Royal Mail is anticipating hundreds of millions of cards will be posted to family and friends in the run up to Christmas, with early mailing helping to ease the burden of massive volumes being passed through the company's sorting offices.
To avoid the disappointment of parcels and letters failing to arrive on time, Mr Hammond urged people to ensure they pay the right postage and write the correct address clearly on packages.
