A product that has been awarded a prize at the 2010 World Championship Cheese Contest could be a perfect addition to a gift hamper.
The Irish Dairy Board's Aged Cheddar, which is sold in the US under the Kerrygold brand, scooped the top spot in the category of Cheddar Aged One or Two Years.
It came away with a gold medal medal and a score of 98.95 at the largest international dairy produce competition in the world.
Eugene O'Connor, factory manager of the co-op creamery in Mallow, Cork in Ireland, said that he and his team were "thrilled" with the accolade.
"Our cheese-makers do an excellent job of producing the cheese from this superior milk and our cheese graders select and taste cheeses that will mature and age perfectly," he added.
The Grilled Cheese Invitational in Los Angeles was celebrated at the weekend, where music and poetry performances took place along with the food sampling.
