Published on 20/04/2010

Japan's oldest man might like to be given a gift hamper as it has been revealed that he has received a cake for his 113th birthday.

Jiroemon Kimura is the most elderly man still alive in the country and celebrated his achievement with about a dozen family members at his home in Kyotango, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan Today reports.

He was surrounded by his great-grandchildren and his great-great-grandchildren at the bash, where he ate a festive plate of rice and a grilled sea bream before smiling when presented with the cake.

Mr Kimura was born on April 19th 1897 and upon hearing that the record longevity for a male in his homeland is 120, he said of beating it: "It may be a little difficult … but that makes it all the more worthwhile."

It was recently revealed that Dunn's Bakery in Crouch End is making a range of iCakes - sugary treats based on the iPhone brand.
