An 83-year-old man from Southport has been given a luxury hamper and £100 of vouchers by the police after he was the victim of a violent attack. Dennis Brough escaped, despite being ambushed, beaten and tied up by George Fairclough, 21, who threatened to kill him, reports the Liverpool Echo. Fairclough has now been sent to prison for ten years, paving the way for officers to treat Mr Brough to some goodies and vouchers. They presented him with a hamper that was packed with puddings, biscuits, tinned fruit and other essential foodstuffs. Detective Hoare, who worked on the investigation, said the victim's bravery had been key in helping to convict Fairclough, with his court appearance described as particularly important. "The police have been fantastic from the start. I was gobsmacked by the hamper and vouchers and I will donate some of the items to Southport soup kitchen," Mr Brough stated.
