Mary Portas was presented with a luxury hamper and a cake during a trip to Stockport.

The celebrity businesswoman visited the north-west town in order to find out about the developments taking place in the area and was handed a selection of the finest food and drink goodies Stockport has to offer, as well as a special 'Portas cake'.

Stockport was recently awarded £100,000 in funding as part of the 'Portas Pilot' scheme, which is looking to encourage enterprises and consortiums to come up with innovative ideas about transforming their local high street.

John O'Mara, chair of Stockport Town Team and president of the National Market Traders Federation's Stockport branch, said it is has been an honour to welcome Portas to the town. He added: "It's been really helpful to learn from her expertise and experience - it can only make our Town Team stronger."

Portas - otherwise known as the Queen of Shops - met with Town Team members for a tour of Stockport's central zones and visited its landmark 1930s super cinema and variety theatre.
