A luxury hamper can be the ideal gift for a variety of occasions and may appeal particularly to men who are unsure of what to buy their partner.

It seems many are reluctant to give jewellery, as Retail Jeweller reports a QVC survey showed 13 per cent of males are nervous such presents could be seen as a sign they want a bigger commitment.

Nearly two-thirds of women in the UK have not received jewellery this year, but food gifts may be a more appropriate choice for men wary of the connotations.

"The research shows British men are extremely cautious about gifting their loved ones with jewellery," said Gemma Savage of QVC.

One of the major reasons men gave for their reluctance was a fear of getting their purchase wrong, due to the varied tastes of women.

However, luxury hampers could become particular favourites as Christmas approaches, as they offer a range of festive treats.
