Individuals have been warned not to leave gifts on show in their car this festive season, as they risk becoming a victim of theft.
North Yorkshire Police told the York Press that leaving goods on the backseat of a vehicle makes people easy targets and tempts thieves.
"Leaving a pile of wrapped or unwrapped Christmas presents in plain view in your car is an open invitation to the opportunist thief, so put your bags in your boot and lock it," Sergeant Andy Haigh stated.
Those planning on delivering gift hampers to loved ones throughout December may want to ensure they follow the officer's advice and also store electronic devices out of view.
Sergeant Haigh explained that satellite navigation systems and mobile phones are among the most sought after gadgets by thieves.
Drivers were urged not to give criminals an "easy ride" and remember that overlooking security could ruin their Christmas.
