Hampshire vineyard wins 12 medals for its wine
Published on 12/08/2010

A vineyard in Hampshire has been awarded 12 medals for its products, something which may interest luxury wine hamper fans.

Wickham Vineyard had entered two world wine competitions and one national contest and beat competitors from more than 40 countries, BBC News reports.

Jonathan Rogers is a winemaker and he said awards for those in the UK's wine industry shows English wine is now "getting recognised all over the world".

"We hand-pick all our grapes, it's expensive and time-consuming, but it is good because you can ensure very good quality grapes are only picked," he added.

According to the news provider there are approximately 380 vineyards in the UK and just a small number of these bottle and label their wine on site.

Recent figures from the Beverage Information Group's 2010 Wine Handbook revealed there has been a rise in the amount of wine bought by consumers in America.
