Hampers shoppers 'should be vigilant' when buying festive gifts
Published on 21/12/2010

People should take extra care when using their credit cards over the festive period, it has been noted.

Sarah Blaney, card fraud expert at CCP, said individuals - which may include those buying Xmas hampers - have to remain vigilant with their card details.

She advised consumers not to take all of their cards with them when they go shopping and also to never leave belongings unattended.

"A lot of people put their handbags over the back of their chair in restaurants. In the hustle and bustle you're not always aware of the things that are going on around you," Ms Blaney stated.

The specialist recommended individuals get a prepaid card, as it is used in the same way as a credit card but the amount it is for will often be lower, so if it is stolen the risk is restricted.

According to research from Sainsbury's Finance, Brits intend to spend around £6.7 billion during this week.

The average person will fork out £170.25, while 1.9 million consumers plan to splash out at least £500.
