Hampers help raise £2,000 for charity
Published on 17/01/2012

Christmas hampers have helped raise more than £2,000 for charitable work in Worcestershire.

The Malvern Gazette reports how raffles held at pubs across the local area saw £2,105 collected by the Malvern Hills Lions.

Raising £500, the Fox Inn at Bransford topped the fundraising effort, while the Prince of Wales in Ledbury had its efforts recognised after collecting £241.

In addition to receiving donations from the raffle, the Lions gathered £1,964 through pitching a Santa Claus sleigh in the town centre.

For the first time, Morrison's supermarket's car park was used for as the site for the sleigh instead of having it tour through Malvern.

All of the funds raised by the two events will be put towards the Lions' various charitable work.

The organisation was founded in 1975 and its mission is to help empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs and promote peace and understanding.
