Hamper fans can 'master matching wine with cheese'
Published on 31/01/2011

It has been suggested that the way flavours and consistencies work with each other should be considered when pairing wine with cheese, hamper enthusiasts may be interested to know.

People looking to pair the two for a dinner party should aim to find a balance between the two ingredients, Baristanet reports.

Hofer Louis, an expert on dairy delicacies, explained how certain combinations work together.

"If you have a cheese high in fat that leaves a film in your mouth, such as brie, you would want a red wine that is fruity … in order to clean your mouth," she said.

Ms Louis noted that sweeter, harder varieties - mentioning Swiss and Gruyere as examples - are better suited to whites.

For those who are planning a get together, GoLocalProv.com suggested that the ideal number of guests to ask along is between eight and ten and, if possible, they should be invited by email.
