Hamper beverage growing in popularity?
Published on 15/12/2010

Sales of Champagne appear to be picking up, one expert has claimed.

In an interview with the Metro, Daniel Brennan, head of marketing at Laurent-Perrier UK, said transactions of the beverage - which can often be found in luxury gift hampers - have been muted because of the economic downturn.

However, he noted recent figures show sales of the tipple are now increasing again.

Willie Lebus of Bibendum Wine observed rising demand has been driven by rose Champagne and he observed growth for this drink suddenly appeared.

"You can tell the growth came out of nowhere because the Champenoise themselves ran out of stock for two years on the trot," he added.

And Francoise Peretti, director of the Champagne Information Bureau in London, commented pink Champagne is a popular choice at the moment, as it is goes well with a range of foods.

Elsewhere, a statement from Kenwood Vineyards, recently advised people to pick beverages that complement the food they are planning to eat.

It noted "bold" red wines are ideal when served with roast beef or a leg of lamb.
