Hamper beer supplier 'raids the recipe books'
Published on 24/01/2011

Fans of hamper beer brewer Fuller's may be pleased to hear that its new Past Masters XX Strong Ale was well received at a tasting.

Members of the Nottingham branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (Camra) assembled to sample the beverage on Saturday (January 22nd), according to an article by Steve Rogerson on suite101.com.

The group noted a colour likened to that of a Belgian beer, an aroma indicative of its strong alcohol content and a delicate taste that led to a bitter finish.

Individual tasters offered varied compliments: "Very smooth, very nice," said one, while another claimed it was "a cracking beer" and it would be "very popular in Belgium".

The release is a result of Fuller's studying its archive of old recipes, with the intention of bringing a series of traditional-style beers to a modern audience.

Fuller's has been named Champion Beer of Britain at Camra's Great British Beer Festival a record five times.
