Girls Scouts deliver baby hampers to honour anniversary
Published on 12/03/2012

Baby hampers have been distributed in the US in celebration of the 100th birthday anniversary of the Girl Scouts.

Young members of the organisation in Houston delivered gift baskets to little girls born at the Ben Taub General Hospital.

The hampers contained an array of essential items for new babies, as well as handmade congratulatory cards and tiny Girl Scout uniforms.

Troops from across the council's 26-county area donated the baskets, as part of a drive to celebrate and promote the long-running activity group.

Hundreds of babies born throughout the US today (March 12th) will receive hampers, as the event is a nationwide scheme designed to initiate little ones as honorary members of Troop 2012.

Juliette Gordon Low founded the Girl Scouts in Savannah, Georgia, on March 12th 1912 and it was chartered by the US Congress in 1950.

There are now around 3.2 million members, with groups found in 92 countries across the globe.
