Gift hamper shoppers may want to take advantage of early sales
Published on 22/12/2010

Individuals who have yet to buy Christmas gifts may want to take advantage of the pre-new year sales, which have started early, as many retailers try to claw back losses caused by the bad weather.

Mark Huggins, director of AA Financial Services, said many people could bag a bargain, as shops are doing all they can to entice customers through their doors.

He also advised individuals - including those planning on buying gift hampers - to splash out now to avoid the VAT increase in January.

Mr Huggins also suggested people who are considering using a credit card to pay for yuletide items to do their research, as there are some "top offers" at the moment.

Earlier this week, Sarah Blaney, card fraud expert at CCP, observed consumers should be extra vigilant with their card details during the festive period.

She recommended individuals only take the debit or credit cards they are going to use when they hit the high street and to leave the rest at home to minimise loss if bags or purses get stolen.
