Georgian wine to be a future hamper favourite?
Published on 21/02/2011

Georgian bottles of wine may soon feature more regularly in hampers.

According to The Financial, Georgia is well-versed in viticulture, however its reputation is not well known throughout the European Union.

Despite this, wine producers from the country - which is the former Soviet Union's second biggest grape producer behind Moldova - are planning to extend their reach into the western marketplace.

Director of the International German Wine and Spirits Association Ralf Peter Muller suggested the nation should employ good marketing strategists with EU and UK experience in order to make waves in the continental marketplace.

"There should ideally be a large quantity of good quality wine to build up a certain impression of Georgian wine on the EU market, as well as there being carefully chosen pricing," he added.

This follows news that countries not previously famed for their viticulture could soon become more prominent in the marketplace and therefor in gift hampers.

Global Industry Analysts expects bottles from China, Russia and India to play a part in the future of the industry as lifestyles change over time.
