Fruit basket contents may help with joint pains

The contents of a fruit basket could give some relief to those with aching joints, it has been suggested.

According to Maryon Stewart, writing for the Daily Express, eating five portions of foodstuffs such as grapes, apples, bananas and strawberries can ease this kind of pain, which some women experience during the menopause.

As well as making sure to have plenty of fruit, ladies can also pile on the vegetables and do daily stretching exercises to stave off creaking bones, while oily fish like mackerel and sardines should be eaten twice a week.

Post-menopausal women are at risk of heart disease and hardened arteries, which can also be remedied by tucking into the contents of a fruit basket as well as soya, which is said to lower cholesterol.

The comments follow a study published in the European Heart Journal, which found that those who eat more foods like tomatoes, pears, broccoli and asparagus are less likely to die as a result of ischaemic heart disease.
