What you eat can have a big effect on your quality of sleep, a study has shown.
Researchers from the University of Pennsylvania looked into the effects of diet on sleep and found that people with the healthiest sleep patterns ate a well-balanced diet from a variety of food groups.
The study looked at data from nearly five thousand participants and analysed how much sleep each person reported getting each night as well as a detailed report of their diet.
Normal sleepers showed the greatest variety in their diets while short sleepers drank less tap water and consumed less lycopene, an antioxidant found in red and orange coloured fruit and vegetables.
