Food hampers sent to 96-year-old woman following mugging
Published on 22/01/2013

A Cornwall community has rallied to support an elderly woman after she was mugged for her pension, providing her with food hampers and flowers, as well as letters of support.

Zoe Shephard, 96, from Wadebridge, said that the kindness shown to her following the ordeal had been overwhelming.

The Cornish Guardian reports that she received a selection of fine foods from concerned neighbours and local residents, while money was also collected and flowers were sent to her home.

Food hampers represent a great gift to buy for people with collective funds, particularly in cases where it might not be appropriate to give them raised donations directly.

Speaking to the newspaper, the retired nurse said: "I love Wadebridge so much, and I want to thank the whole town from the very bottom of my heart.

"I've had flowers, lovely, lovely letters, money has been collected for me and shops have provided me with food hampers - I can't thank everyone enough for what they have done for me - I really don't know what to say."

Her story came to the attention of the wider community once a Facebook page was set up to highlight the crime.
