Food hampers bring joy in St Helens
Published on 04/01/2013

Hundreds of low-income families in St Helens, Merseyside, have been presented with food hampers by children's charity KIND.

The body dished out more than 200 baskets of goodies, which contained treats and necessities to last the holiday season, the St Helens Star reports.

It also provided youngsters in more than 100 households with toy hampers, to make sure there was something for everyone this year.

One mother who received help from KIND told the news provider the food hamper made a huge difference to her family and she also unexpectedly received a toy hamper from the charity.

"When I opened the door it actually brought me to tears because it brought such relief to me knowing that my kids are going to be OK for Christmas," she added.

KIND founder Stephen Kip explained it is because of the local individuals, community groups and churches that so many mothers experienced a happier Christmas, but said there is still a lot of work to be done in the area.
