Finance savvy Brits begin Christmas shopping in September
Published on 22/11/2012

One in ten families began preparing for Christmas in September in a bid to help spread the burden of paying for presents, according to new research.

A study conducted by supermarket chain Morrisons revealed that more than half of all Britons are more worried about the financial implications of the festive season this year than in 2011.

In order to ensure they are not left short in December, many savvy shoppers may have already ordered their Christmas hampers and stocked up on food for the yuletide celebrations.

Seven per cent of respondents admitted they started buying presents in January this year in an attempt to spread costs.

Over Christmas, the average household's monthly outgoings is expected to increase by £164.80, with the money spent on food, drink, decorations, presents and travel.

As a result, 32 per cent of Brits are worried they will not have enough cash to cover the festive season.
