A gift hamper might be the perfect present for a member of the film business who is celebrating his 90th birthday.

Ray Harryhausen, an acclaimed special effects animator, has reached the milestone today (June 29th) and has used the occasion to make an important announcement.

The artist pledged the collection of his life's work to the National Media Museum while also officially opening a year-long exhibition of his efforts entitled Ray Harryhausen - Myths and Legends.

London Film Museum will play host to the installation, which includes memorabilia from fantasy films made between the 1950s and 1980s.

Mr Harryhausen commented: "Now I have reached 90 it is important … to preserve my art in all its forms and that this will be available for future generations."
