Expert: Brits should plan for Christmas now
Published on 16/09/2010

With just 100 days to go until Christmas, Brits are being urged to plan ahead when it comes to buying presents.

Head of banking at moneysupermarket.com Kevin Mountford said many individuals fail to prepare for the festive period and this results in them carrying their funding problems into the new year.

"Taking action now, rather than leaving it to the last minute, can help ease the financial pressure come December," he added.

The organisation recommends shoppers - such as those who are considering buying luxury Christmas gift hampers - set a budget and stick to it.

It also stated it is not too late to put some cash aside each month to spread the cost and reduce the chances of having to rely on December's wages in order to pay for gifts.

Individuals who are considering purchasing a gift hamper for a loved one as a yuletide present may want to buy a fruit hamper.

Adrian Barlow, chief executive officer of English Apples, recently claimed this year's crop of apples will be "exceptionally good" due to the cold winter and spring experienced in the UK.
