Those considering buying hampers for loved ones this Christmas may want to purchase those containing dried fruit as opposed to sweets.
Sunil Sanklecha, founder of Nuts n' Spices, told the Deccan Chronicle that one of the benefits of doing this is that they can be kept for longer.
The retailer made the claim after businesses in India reported surging sales of hampers containing dried fruit, with a 30 per cent rise recorded this year.
"Sweets have to be consumed immediately. So most people are now looking to gift dry fruits, which can be stored for longer," Mr Sanklecha stated.
Ankita Shah, a shopper questioned as to why she bought ten hampers for her friends, added: "It is really beautiful and a healthy option to gift such a pack this season."
Organiser of the British Food Fortnight Alexia Robinson recently suggested that Brits are keen to embrace seasonal produce, meaning fruit baskets could be popular gift ideas this Christmas.
