Countries that are not traditional wine producers have been predicted to drive the growth of the market in the future.
Global Industry Analysts forecast a promising future for the hamper beverage, partly thanks to growing popularity in regions not usually associated with the drink.
It was noted that evolving habits among nations such as China, India and Russia are having an influence on the global scene.
"Changing lifestyles in these countries, which mostly mimic western lifestyles, is proving to be a major win for the growth in wine consumption," the organisation explained.
Whereas the tipple used to be most favoured among middle-aged consumers, an increasing number of younger drinkers are displaying a preference for wine over other options.
More people are said to be enjoying a glass or two at home since research indicated moderate consumption can help to prevent conditions such as cancer and Alzheimer's.
Last month, the Herald Sun reported that if the Chinese wine industry continues to grow at its current rate, its output could soon surpass Australia's.
