Days out with dad: places to go for Father’s Day
Published on 12/04/2018
Father

He’s likely to have been the family’s personal chauffeur at some point, so why not thank dad for all those trips out with a special Father’s Day trip? We’ve chosen our favourite locations to take dad this summer, which have a connection with our range of food and drink hampers and gifts – so you can get inspired for a day trip and find your way to the perfect gift choice.

Bath Festival of Motoring

If your dad is a bit of a petrol head, then a day out at the Bath Festival of Motoring is the pick of our Father’s Day day out ideas. From the 16th – 17th June, he can enjoy a walk around their display of vintage and classic cars, motorbikes and supercars, even getting the opportunity to have a ride in a Porsche, Ferrari or Mercedes. If he likes his vehicles a little smaller in scale, there is also a model aircraft flying display as well as various other entertainment on site including live bands and games to enjoy, something for everyone.

Regency recommendation: Bath is well renowned for gin – Bath gin is developed with local ingredients and being in the south west, is also the home of a fine collection of fruit based gins, on sale in numerous bars throughout the city. If your dad is partial to a G&T, our Broadway Gin and Tonic hamper could be the perfect accompaniment to this day out.

Knights School – Bolsover Castle, Derbyshire

Turn dad into a real knight in shining armour with a visit to Knights School at Bolsover Castle. Within the authentic setting of the Castle grounds, dad and the kids can be taught the art of battlefield prowess. The tour guides are in authentic medieval attire and will welcome you to hear tales of chivalry and the history of battle. One of the most fun and educational things to do on Father’s Day.

Regency recommendation: Since the 1920’s, Derbyshire is one of only three counties in the UK which is officially allowed to produce Stilton cheese (along with Nottinghamshire and Leicestershire). If dad is a fan of Stilton, look no further than our collection of cheese hampers, including the Port & Stilton wooden box. Complete with delicious chutney and oatcakes, this is a classic Father’s Day gift.

Ultimate Golf Day – Newport, Wales

Looking FORRRE a place to take your Golf loving dad? Celtic Manor in Newport offer the ultimate Golf day throughout the year, but with volatile Welsh weather, June seems an ideal choice. Incorporating breakfast and a 2 course lunch along with 18 holes out on the greens, you can treat dad to a nice relaxed day at one of the country’s most famous courses.

Regency Recommendation: Wales is renowned for its cakes – Welsh cakes (like scones) are firm favourite in the valleys, and if your dad is fond of a sweet treat, could he be tempted with our Muffin, Flapjack and Biscuit Share Basket? Bulging with biscuits, mounds of muffins and topped off with toffee. A perfect sugar boost after a busy day on the greens.

Mid Hants Railway train experience – Hampshire

Does your dad dream of steam? If he likes nothing more than a locomotive than he will love a day out on the Watercress Line via the Mid Hants Railway. As a unique Father’s Day offering, he can experience taking the controls on a 350hp diesel locomotive under an instructor to travel the short distance to Alresford Station and back. As Father’s Day day out ideas go, this is a dream destination.

Regency Recommendation: Hampshire is renowned for its pork and amongst our gift ideas for dad is a celebration of all things porcine – our Cider Man Crate Snack Tray contains Orchard Pig Cider and delicious pork crackling snacks. A nice refreshing end to a day on the tracks.

Picnic at Studland Beach, Dorset

A relaxing picnic is a great way to celebrate Father’s Day. A day where dad can put his feet up and relax, a picnic in a picturesque location is ideal. There are hundreds of great picnic spots in the UK, but we’ve picked out the beautiful Studland Beach in Dorset. With a 4 mile beach and shallow bathing water, this is an idyllic place to enjoy a picnic with young ones. The heathland offers a beautiful scene to enjoy a scotch egg by.

Regency Recommendations: We’re highly qualified when it comes to hampers, so we know a thing or two about how to prepare for the ultimate picnic. All of our picnic hampers contain gourmet ingredients, from the finest fruit to the tastiest treats. A delicious way to cap off your scenic Father’s Day picnic.
