A woman from Darlington has marked turning 100 by hosting a party with family and friends at her care home.
The Northern Echo reports how Gladys Bushby reached the milestone age on February 23rd and around 25 people helped her to celebrate.
Guests may have been treated to a birthday cake as they looked back over Ms Bushby's long life.
One of her sisters even travelled across from America especially for the occasion.
The centenarian has two daughters and a son, as well as eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Senior carer at Ventress Hall Care Home, where Ms Bushby lives, Tanya Betteridge described her as "marvellous".
"She walks herself about and does everything herself," she commented.
According to the Centenarian, the oldest person on record with verifiable documentation was Jeanne Calment who was born on February 21st 1875 and lived to be 122 years and 164 days old.
