As people begin to think about what to give their loved ones for Christmas this year, one financial specialist has warned against vouchers.

Founder of consumer website MoneySavingExpert.com Martin Lewis told the Daily Telegraph how gift cards are a risky present in the current economic market.

"They're just a promise from a company, but if that company goes bust or changes hands you've no rights," he stated.

Mr Lewis commented that people are left with a worthless piece of plastic if a firm folds and will find themselves at the back of the queue of a long line of creditors awaiting refunds.

As a result of the expert's comments, choosing a hamper over vouchers may be the best option this Christmas.
